About Relais Sakura

Relais Sakura Restaurant is one of those places you excitedly tell friends about when they ask where to eat in Tokyo, especially if you love French cuisine with a relaxed, neighborhood feel. Tucked away at 1 Chome-36-9 Shinmachi in Setagaya City, this charming French restaurant feels welcoming from the moment you arrive, balancing elegance with a warmth that makes you want to settle in and take your time. As someone introducing Relais Sakura for the first time, what stands out immediately is how effortlessly it blends refined flavors with an approachable atmosphere, making it just as suitable for a casual dinner as it is for a special night out. The menu leans into classic French inspiration while staying flexible, and that flexibility shows in the way dishes are served as thoughtfully prepared small plates that encourage sharing, conversation, and exploration. Alongside the food, the drink selection adds another layer to the experience, with wine, beer, cocktails, coffee, and other alcoholic options available to match whatever mood you are in. If you prefer lingering over a glass of wine, the setting invites you to slow down, yet if you are short on time, the service remains smooth and attentive without feeling rushed. Relais Sakura also adapts easily to modern dining habits, offering both dine-in and delivery options, which makes it convenient whether you want the full in-house experience or a cozy meal at home. The overall vibe stays distinctly French while still feeling rooted in its Tokyo surroundings, and that balance is part of what makes it memorable. From the friendly service to the carefully chosen offerings, Relais Sakura comes across as confident in its identity, clear in its purpose, and genuinely enjoyable for anyone looking to experience French dining in Setagaya. It naturally attracts locals and travelers alike, creating an easygoing rhythm where conversations flow, flavors linger, and every visit feels personal, unpretentious, and worth repeating, no matter the occasion or time of day.

As a wine lover it's a must-go. Nice and chilled ambience. Good selection of wine and food is very good, they have specials on the menu too based on seasonal specialities. For us it's a plus that they are child friendly as well and the customers seem laid back about that too.

We came for dinner during the week, because we were not able to get a table on weekends it was fully booked. The place is very cozy & down-to-earth atmosphere. The food is really tasty with good quality wine to go with it. We orderd the sea bream carpaccio, chicken liver mousse, grilled oysters, the dish of the day (flatfish) & the amazing horse meat tartare. For desserts bologna strawberry chocolate terrine with strawberry Sobert & ripped banana sweet both tasted amazingly delicious Definitely coming back on my next visit

Been living and loving this neighborhood bistro in Sakura Shinmachi for years. Always delivers gourmet dishes, great service with wine recommendations and kids love it too. Probably the best wild boar I’ve had. :))
